I have a acquaintance who has severe learning disabilities and is physically poorly co-ordinated, which makes art and sports way too difficult for him.
For many years it was hard to find what he was good at. His brother was a talented enough to do sports , to study and it gradually became clear that Tom couldn't do all the things like his sharp brother who is always appreciated for all what he does.
Now most kids are luckier than this, they don't have the odds so heavily stacked against them. But is shows that even the most challenged kids can still be good at something.
Your child need to know that they are good at something-beat the intro will do fine-for their self esteem.
If you want them to grow up feeling they can contribute something to the world and hold their head up, this is their starting place. With the time it will give them the confidence to find other things. Some kids are good at many things.
Some kids are really good at loads of things and some at only one or two , MAKE THAT ONE OR TWO THEIR STRENGTHS.
It may not have to be anything academic or school- oriented , although these will be fine too. It might be that they have got the best memory and can remind you the list you have forgotten to put on the shopping list or may be they are the best organizer . They can put all the things of kitchen or fridge in proper order or they have a kind gesture to treat animals.
The most important thing -THEY KNOW THAT YOU KNOW THEY ARE GOOD AT IT.
